Sample workflow: choose a PDF on this device, then Process. The file stays in this tab.

This step may download a library in this browser the first time you use it.

Put an open password on a PDF in this tab before you email it. Uploading a file to a website in order to lock it is backwards. This is not DRM, not certificate encryption, and we will not remove a password you forgot.

You want the attachment to ask for a password and you do not want the plaintext sitting on a “protect PDF” host. That is this page: set an open password in the current tab.

It is not sign PDF (a stamp). It is not watermark PDF (a visible DRAFT). It is not unlock-PDF.

Why cloud “protect” is a joke

The file has to reach their server to get a password. Here, the bytes stay in the tab. Typical ceiling is about 32 MB.

Pick a password you will actually remember or store in a manager. We cannot reset it.

How to use it

  1. Drop the PDF you own.
  2. Set the open password. Process in this tab.
  3. Send the protected file out of band from the password (chat vs email, etc.).

If you still want a visual “Confidential,” watermark first or after, depending on whether the watermark should live inside the locked file.

Honest limits

  • Not unbreakable. Not a qualified electronic seal.
  • Passworded inputs may fail other tools until you open them in a full reader.
  • Owner vs user password nuance is not a full Acrobat security panel.

This is a local utility, not legal advice.

FAQ

Can you unlock or remove a password?

No. That is a different job and not one we offer. If you lost the password, we cannot recover the file.

Is this military-grade or HIPAA encryption?

No. It is an open password as the PDF library allows. Do not use compliance theater words. A determined attacker and a weak password still win.

Is this the same as signing the PDF?

No. A drawn signature is appearance. A password restricts opening. Neither is DocuSign or eIDAS.

Will print and copy restrictions hold?

Viewer honor is inconsistent. Treat ‘cannot print’ flags as hints, not DRM. If you need people not to read it, do not send the file.

Does the PDF get uploaded to be encrypted?

No. Typical ceiling is about 32 MB.
