ToolAtlasCount words, characters, CJK glyphs, and a rough reading time as you paste. Essay limits, meta descriptions, and X-style caps do not agree on what a ‘character’ is — trust the publisher’s own box when it matters.
The essay cap is 800 words, the meta description box is 155 characters, or you need a 字 count for mixed English and Chinese. That is this page: live counts in the tab, no account.
wordcounter.net-class sites wrap the same counters in ads. We will not pretend our tokenizer matches every CMS.
Which number you actually need
- Words — English essays, blog drafts, “under 500 words.”
- Characters with spaces — many SEO and form limits.
- Characters without spaces — some academic and SMS-adjacent rules.
- CJK glyphs — when the assignment is 字, not space-delimited words.
Google title truncation is often described as ~600 px, not a hard 60-character law. Confirm in Search Console or the live SERP.
How to use it
- Paste the draft. Counts update as you type.
- If you need to delete extra spaces, whitespace cleaner is an editor, not a counter.
- Find/replace is find and replace.
Honest limits
- Emoji and ZWJ sequences can disagree with Twitter/X “weighted” length.
- Newlines may or may not count as characters depending on the destination.
- We do not ship platform presets as legally binding.
For a spoken draft, text to speech is a different job.
