What should each person Venmo if the table wants 18–22% on the pre-tax or post-tax amount you choose. Not a payroll product.

A six-top in the US, one check, someone already opened Venmo. That is this page: percent plus headcount. It is not European service compris, and it is not a city ordinance about wage boards.

If the restaurant printed an automatic gratuity for a large party, read the receipt before you stack another tip.

Raw “15% of 86” without splitting is percentage. Converting the card total’s currency is unit converter — still not a bank rate you should trade on.

US restaurant split, not a tax engine

Bill, heads, tip %. US custom, not a VAT engine and not a paycheck. Service-included receipts should not get a second bump unless you mean to. Rounding cash vs card is a table decision.

How to use it

  1. Enter the bill base you agreed to tip on.
  2. Enter the tip % and how many people split.
  3. Transfer the per-person number. Cash rounding is your problem, not ours.

Honest limits

Not tax advice. Not a claim that 20% is “correct.” Not itemized orders.

FAQ

Pre-tax or post-tax?

US etiquette debates both. Many people tip on the pre-tax food total; some tip on the grand total. Pick the base you and the table agreed on.

The receipt already added 18%.

That may be an automatic gratuity or a service charge. Do not blindly add another 20% on top unless you mean to.

Does this include sales tax by ZIP?

No. Tax is whatever the receipt printed. We only apply the tip % you type.

Is tipping required in the US?

It is a strong custom in sit-down restaurants, not a federal statute we enforce. Other countries differ.

Can I itemize who ordered the lobster?

Not as a line-item POS. Split evenly or do the uneven math yourself.
